Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Sister Albertha Louise Tezeno Edwards will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday December 28, 2013, and visitation is from 9 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. at Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Shelton Charles Dixon of Baton Rouge, LA and Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert Jr., Pastor will be officiating. Burial will be in the Combre Memorial Park in Lake Charles, LA immediately following the service, under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.

Albertha Edwards, 75, died on Friday, December 20, 2013 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Sister Edwards was an active disciple of Greater Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years where she served under the leadership of the late Dr. R.B. House and Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert Jr. She served as the president of the deaconess'' and mother''s ministry, member of the gospel and mass choir, member of the Esther purpose driven small group, greeter''s ministry, new disciple''s counselor, telephone evangelism committee (TEC), women''s misson, former president of the youth department, former president of junior choir, former president of the Inspirational choir, and former director of the Children''s drill team. She has served as a volunteer at Abraham''s Tent and also served through her church in the nursing home ministry at local nursing homes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kelton and Martha Parker Tezeno, Sr.; three brothers, Kelton Tezeno, Jr., Orell Tezeno, and Buck Tezeno; her husband of 52 years the late Deacon Samuel Edwards, Sr.

Sister Edwards leaves to cherish her loving spirit, one daughter, Matilda (Samuel) Tolbert; one son, Samuel (Pamela) Edwards, Jr. of Lake Charles, LA ; two brothers, Rev. Felton (Eloise) Tezeno, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Mose Alexander of Crowley, Louisiana ; two sisters, Octavia (Edward) Thomas of Opelousas, Louisiana, Shirley Johnson of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Candace Latrice Tolbert, Kayla Monique Tolbert, Samuel Alexander O''Neal Edwards, and Dorcas Danielle Edwards of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Four godchildren, Mary Lou (Ruby) Owens, raised as a sister of Port Arthur, Texas, Wanda Lewis Kennerson, Sakeithsha Fruge, Tracie Valarie, of Lake Charles, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
