IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alexander "Skip"
Johnson Iii
October 21, 1960 – September 11, 2013
Alexander Louis "Skip" Johnson, III, 52, died at 9:57p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at St. Patrick Hospital.
"Skip" ("Skipper" to most of his family and childhood friends), was born in Natchez, MS, October 21, 1960, to Alexander Louis Johnson, Jr. and Carolyn Clemons Johnson. He has lived in Lake Charles for most of his adult life. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School and graduated from Lake Charles High School. He went on to attend Northeast State University (ULM) where he studied Photojournalism.
Skip had a passion for photography and it was rare to ever find him without his camera in hand. He was owner and sole proprietor of Johnson''s Photography, from which he captured beautiful memories for over 25 years. He was a member of the Professional Photographers of America. He was the organizer of the newly-formed African American Photographers Association. He also recently added Southern Flavor Images to his portfolio. Skip was employed at Harrah''s Casino until it closed due to damage from Hurricane Rita.
He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following local and state basketball, football, and track and field. He loved music, especially old school R&B and gospel music, and fancied himself an unofficial DJ. Skip also absolutely loved marching bands! There wasn''t a battle of the bands that he didn''t enjoy! And he was quite a "techy", loving anything electronic.
Skip thoroughly enjoyed time with his family and was the official photographer for every family event! He especially loved spending time with his nephews, whether challenging them to a game of "HORSE" or taking them and their cousins to play Putt-Putt. Super shy as a teenager, Skip overcame his shyness early in his adult life and has never, ever met a stranger since.
Skip had numerous interests, but his greatest love of all was his daughter, Lindsay Alexandra Johnson. She was the apple of his eye!
Skip was raised, baptized, educated and confirmed at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was continuing to grow in his faith and had recently become an active member of St. Henry Catholic Church. There is no doubt that God had imparted unto him insight that his death was near. Prior to his death, he wrote and shared a beautiful prayer with most of his family and friends. He also texted his daughter and all of his siblings on the day of his death to tell them how much he loved them.
Skip was preceded in death by his father, Alexander L. Johnson, Jr., his paternal grandparents, Alexander and Esther Johnson of Natchez, MS and his maternal grandparents, James and Myrtle Clemons of Lake Charles.
He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Lindsay A. Johnson (Lake Charles); his mother, Carolyn C. Johnson (Lake Charles); one brother, Cedric A. Johnson (Milwaukee, WI); two sisters, Sonya A. Johnson (Manvel, TX) and Jolene A. (Rhoman) Hardy (Pearland, TX); and two nephews, Justin Jerard and Joshua Alexander Hardy (Pearland); along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
