Obituary

On February 19, 1930 a son was born to Northern and Grace Jenkins in Westmoreland, Virginia. Al, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, graduated from High School in Westmoreland, Virginia at the age of 15 years. He studied some technical Engineering classes which prepared him to serve and enter the United States Air Force at seventeen years old. There in the Air Force he became a Master Technical Sergeant for thirteen years. Family was very important to him and while stationed at Webb Air Force Base he met Lillie Campbell, and they married in 1952. While together they had a mutual love, and to this union two children were born, a daughter Gwendolyn and a son Yosif Jenkins.

Later he met and married Marie Margie Simons on December 22, 1962 and they have been married for over fifty two years. Margie and Al''s marriage has been filled with love and devotion until his passing. To this union they had a son David Christopher. Al showed his children much patience, love and respect, but above all of these qualities, he stated that God should be their first priority.

Mr. Al instilled in his children the need to pray and read the Bible. The prayerful life he led was an example to his children and family. His grandchildren were a source of great pride. His love for them was shown through his wisdom and guidance. He was a special man always having a giving heart and a smile to match. If he could help a family member, friend or stranger, he didn''t hesitate. All he needed to do was see a need or a concern and he would try to bless you.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Northern and Grace Jenkins.

He is survived by his loving wife Margie, one daughter Gwendolyn Hailey of Forth Worth, Texas; two sons Yosif Jenkins of Chatham, Michigan and David Jenkins of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Nine grandsons, six granddaughters and one great granddaughter and great grandson. Two sister-in-laws Rose Mary Jolivette and Alexzine Simon. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Al was the first African American Operator and Foreman at PPG until he retired in 1985. He also had a love for building houses and apartment complexes.
