Alvin J. Cormier, "Good Rockin Alvin," 87, passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife of 59 years and his beloved children.

He was born June 23, 1925, to Jules and Marie Cormier of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Alvin is survived by his wife, Audrey Cormier, son, Michael Cormier, of Lake Charles, and daughter Margaret Evans of Friendswood, Texas. Alvin worked many jobs over the course of his life, then retired in 1987 from the Calcasieu Parish School Board. Upon retirement, he was a successful thoroughbred and quarter horse trainer and owner at Evangeline and Delta Downs racetracks. He was also a musician that played and recorded zydeco music up until his death. He was a member of BMI Publishing, Knights of Peter Claver Hall for 55 years, and a member of theBreeders Cup Association.

Alvin so loved his grandchildren and extended family, including three grandchildren, Miranda Evans of Friendswood, Texas, Michael A. Cormier of Lake Charles, and Jamie Cormier, also of Lake Charles, and daughterin-law, Teresa Cormier. The children, Faith Kerlegon, C.J. Kerlegon, Dwayne Landry, Chasyln Landry: He so loved the time spent with each of you. Also, three sisters, Hilda Broussard of Dallas, Texas, Clothilde Arceneaux of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Lawerence Cormier of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jules and Marie Cormier, six brothers and two sisters, and his beloved daughter Jennifer A. Cormier.

To his many friends, remember him with his positive attitude, happy personality and good heart he shared with so many of you.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 25, 2013, from 9 a.m. to noon at Combre Funeral Home, 1200 Mill Street, in Lake Charles. Funeral services will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at noon. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery, 2300 Country Club Road, under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
