Audrette passed peacefully from this life on July 14, 2021.  She was surrounded by her loving family during the last days of her life. Audrette was the oldest child born to Audrey May "Celestine" Slaughter and the late Lee Louis Slaughter on June 21, 1967, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Audrette has two sisters, Lisa Slaughter Moore of Lake Charles, LA. and Sheila Slaughter Guillory (Reginald) of New Orleans.

She was baptized at an early age and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. Audrette was a member of Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church. On August 8, 1992, Audrette married the love of her life, Darrel James Metoyer. To this union was born three children, Lee Louis Metoyer, D'Audra Irene Metoyer, and Darren James Metoyer.

Audrette was passionate about education, and she served as an example for her students.  She graduated from McNeese State University in 1990 with an Associate of Science Degree in Word Processing. A few years later she discovered what her true passion and that was to become an educator.  She re-entered McNeese going to night classes while working full time and having two children. In 1998, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.  It did not end there; she received her Master of Education (2000) and Education Specialist (2004) from McNeese.  She was actively working on her Doctoral Degree from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette even sending in assignments from her hospital beds three days before her death. She was committed and dedicated to increasing her knowledge and perfecting her educational skills.

In 1998, she started her teaching career with the Calcasieu Parish School Board at Ralph Wilson Elementary school. Later that year, Audrette received the Calcasieu Parish School Board's Sallie Mae First Year Teacher for Elementary Schools. Later in her career she was a Master Teacher at Oak Park Elementary, a teacher and Acting Administrative Intern at Brentwood Elementary, and teacher, Dean of Students and was the current Assistant Principal at Oak Park Middle School.

Audrette was incredibly active in the community promoting the education of our youth. In 2000, she joined the organization that she dreamed of becoming a member, the Lake Charles Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.  She chaired several committees including Scholarship, Policies & Procedures, Program Planning & Development, Youth Initiatives, Black Heritage Festival, and Habitat for Humanity.  She served as 2 nd Vice-President (2008-2010), 1 st Vice-President (2010-2012) and President (2014-2016).  Audrette received the 2010-2011 "Mayfield-Reed Award for Delta of the Year".

In 2007, she joined the National Association of University Women (NAUW).  She was active and served a term as the Chapter Parliamentarian.  Additionally, she served as Committee Chair for Scholarship, Public Relations & Technology, and Technology Committee for the Regional Convention.

While continuing being active in her other organizations, Audrette joined the Top Ladies of Distinction in 2010.  She was a committee member of the Scholarship, Status of Women, and Bylaws committees.  Her passion in TLOD was their program "Top Teens of America".  She served as the Top Teen Advisor from 2012-2017. Audrette was presented with the "Top Lady of the Year Award" in 2014.

Audrette still was not finished. In 2018, she became a charter member of the Southwest Louisiana Chapter of Jack and Jill of America. She served on the Executive Board as Chair of the Foundation Committee from 2018-2021.

During her recent illness, Audrette was positive, profoundly caring for her family and deeply devoted to her faith. She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Louis Slaughter.
