Obituary

Audrey was born July 6, 1935 to Aline Charlot Batiste and Theodore Batiste in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She married Alfred Barker in 1956, and to this union a daughter, Maria Consolota, was born.

She received her high school diploma from Holy Rosary Catholic High School. Following high school, she attended McNeese State University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and later earned a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education.

For 44 years Mrs. Barker served as an Early Childhood Educator at Sacred Heart Catholic School and J J Johnson Elementary School. She also taught adult literacy classes in Calcasieu Parish.

In her religious service, Mrs. Barker was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 60 years.  She served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist, Lector, and a Member of the Serran Society. She was a dedicated steward of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Meritorious 4th Degree Ladies of Grace Division and Ladies Auxiliary.  She served as Grand Lady and Counselor for Junior Daughters of St. Rita Court #31, and traveled to conventions nationally for several years.  She was a leader for the St. Joseph Society and was active in the Altar & Rosary Society, and League of the Sacred Heart.  She was an avid believer in service to humanity and supported Sacred Heart Church and KPC in coordinating boudin and dinner sales, baking pies, and cakes to support the organizations.

She was a devout Catholic and prayed the Holy Rosary daily.  For most of her life she attended daily mass, led the block rosary in her community, and encouraged church family and community groups to do the same.

Audrey is preceded by her parents Aline Charlot Batiste and Theodore Batiste; siblings, Johnny Richard, Jacqueline Charlot Johnson, and Joseph Murphy Charlot.  She is survived by her daughter, Maria Consolota Jackson (Michael); three grandchildren, Gabrielle, Michael Jr. and Audra Jackson; sister, Katharine Batiste; and brother Milton L. Batiste "Glenn"; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
