Audrey Gradney Delafose, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at 2 a.m. in a local hospital.
Audrey Gradney Delafose was born Dec. 19, 1931, in Oberlin, La., to the late Murphy and Alida Gradney. In 1950, she united with Mount Calvary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member. She was involved in the Deaconess Ministry as a past president and prepared candidates for baptism. She faithfully attended Mid-Week Service, Vacation Bible School and was a member of Sunday School Class no. 11. She volunteered to work with any ministry when needed.
For many years, she worked as a Domestic Engineer Extraordinaire. The doors to her home and heart were opened to all she met. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Rogers and Clarence Delafose, and one brother, Oliver Gradney.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Rodney Delafose; one son, Emray (Joy) Delafose of Lake Charles, La.; three daughters, Shelia (Sam) Williams of Houston, Texas, Jackie Delafose of Evergreen, Colo., Sherron (Eric) Gurvin of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Verlin Gradney of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Essie Verrett of Lake Charles, La., Bertha Benoit of Onalaska, Texas, and Shirley Mallett of Iowa, La.; three sisters-in-law, Anna Belle Arnum of Lake Charles, La., Angelina Batisteof Atlanta, Ga., and Evelyn D. (David) Lyons of Evergreen, Colo.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A homegoing service celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Lake Charles. The Rev. Elmore Garner will officiate. Interment will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 9 a.m. Saturday in the church.
