Dr. Rev. Audrey Bradford Lartigue, Sr. was born in Reddell, LA on September 22, 1936. He was the first child born to his late Parents Deaconess Thelma Frank Lartigue and Deacon Louis Lartigue. Rev. Lartigue's Education: In 1955 graduated from Charles Drew High School-Eunice, LA; In 1962 graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English, Drama and Speech; In 1968 graduated from Inter-Baptist Theological Seminary of Houston, TX and awarded the Doctor of Divinity Degree; also in 1968 University of Southwestern-Graduate work in Supervision Administration; and in 1969 Tuskegee University-Graduate work in Supervision Administration.
After graduation Dr. Rev. A.B. Lartigue worked in the school system as a teacher at Lincoln Morrow High School, Morrow, LA and Iowa High School, Iowa, LA; also Principal of Audrey Memorial High School of Cameron, LA. where he left a legacy because of his firmness with his students. But whenever they saw him in passing, they thanked him for encouraging them to be the best they could be and it made them greater adults. He also worked as an assistant Building Inspector for the City of Lake Charles to help upgrade low-income neighborhoods.
Pastor A.B. Lartigue many times expressed in a sermon that God spoke to him and saved him while in a tub and he kept a porcelain bathtub on his pulpit as a reminder. He was called into ministry as an ordained Pastor in 1965 and pastored Zion Traveler B.C. of Lawtell, LA; Ring Zion Traveler B.C. of Opelousas, LA and St. Mark B.C. of LeMoyen, LA. In 1970 Pastor Lartigue organized and pastored Unity Baptist Church (where he Loved preaching and teaching God's word) until the building was ruined by hurricane Laura. He was an evangelist by heart and was often seen on Enterprise Boulevard in Lake Charles with his "Street Preaching Ministry" sharing and inviting the community to hear and accept the word of God! Pastor Lartigue was also known for being a part of Sunday's "Gospel Train" radio program where he shared words of inspiration, and an invitation to visit his Church. He would always end with his mottos, "A Scripture a day keeps the devil Away." AND "Don't Watch us Grow, come and Grow with Us." Pastor Lartigue was selfless, lived to please God and allowed God to order his steps.
A. B. Lartigue, Sr. walked into the Barber/Beauty Shop (owned by Anna Marie's brother Lawrence Deshotel) on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, Ville Platte, LA and was mesmerized by the beautiful beautician Anna Marie Alfred and eventually asked for her hand in marriage (they were married December 19, 1959, for 62 years). After living in Ville Platte and Eunice LA, the Lartigue family transitioned and made Lake Charles, LA home; to this union, five Children were born. Chaplain Audrey Bradford Lartigue, Jr., Jacquenetta Sevette Simien, Kelvin Ray Kon-Tiki Lartigue, Marvin (Doc) Asnourvoir Lartigue, Thelma (Peace) Joanetta Collins.
Rev. A.B. Lartigue, Sr.'s hobbies included fishing and crabbing which the family engaged on Saturdays during the harvest season. Our Father spoke of working for the City of Lake Charles where he was a housing inspector and enjoyed helping families qualify for new homes in North Lake Charles. And last but not least Rev. A.B. Lartigue, Sr. loved to dress in style with his favorite suits and shoes of many colors.
Rev. A.B. Lartigue, Sr. was preceded in death by his Parents: Louis Richard & Thelma Lartigue; Brother George Roy Lartigue; his sister (deceased at birth); Grandparents: Phillip and Zelia Ferguson Lartigue, Hester (Mama Dosey) Coward Lartigue; Hester and Hosea Frank; Maternal/Paternal-in-laws Severine Carmon and Dave Alfred; and Effie Pete and Russell Deshotel. Grandsons: Marquis Allen, Sr., Marlon Allen, Sr.
Rev. A.B. Lartigue, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories: his loving Wife of 62 years Mrs. Anna Marie Alfred Lartigue; three sons Chaplain Bradford Lartigue, Jr.; Kon-Tiki (Sandra) Lartigue; Marvin (Tammy) Lartigue; four daughters Sevette (Ronald) Simien; Joanetta (Kenneth) Collins; Annetta (Thomas) Chatman; Pamela Wyatts; Nephew-Terry Martin; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a host of many relatives and friends.
