August "Bo" Stevens the son of the late Elizabeth Hagger Stevens and Harvey Stevens, Sr. was born on October 11, 1932 In Port Arthur, Texas and entered into eternal rest on May 23, 2020 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. August united in marriage with Kermit Nell Richardson on
December 31, 1959, and she preceded him in death after 57 years of marriage. He is survived by his seven children, Terrell Gray of San Francisco, California; Robert (Barbara) Taylor and Byron Stevens, Sr. of Seattle, Washington; Sherri Stevens and Kermit Reginald Taylor of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Bonita (George) Rogers and Karla Redmond of Houston, Texas.
He is survived by ten grandchildren, Jared Gray, Byron Stevens, Jr., Ryan Pereira, Quinn Taylor, Jonathan Redmond, Steven Rogers, Nicholas Rogers, Kyla Gray, Kayla Taylor, and Keara Taylor. He also has six great- grandchildren, Lillian Taylor, Jacob Taylor, Auyun and Juda Gray, August Stevens, and Olivia Pereira.
Also included in his survivors are a host of devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. August was preceded in death by both of his parents, Elizabeth and Harvey Stevens, along with his brother Harvey Stevens, Jr. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana where his work for the Lord began. Throughout the years, he worked in various ministries including the male chorus and was a trustee board member.
He along with his late wife, Kermit Nell, later united in membership with New Light Baptist Church where he was a member until his death.
He earned an associates degree in accounting from McNeese State University and completed additional studies in business and accounting at Sowela Technical College. He was a member of the Order of the Free Masons, and was a life -long member of the NAACP.
August was an employee of the United States Postal Service and retired after 34 years in 1990. Upon retirement from the United States Postal Service, he began his career in the hospitality industry and continued working in this industry for an additional 20 years.
August took pride in his role as a husband, provider, father and grandfather. Family and his love of God mattered most to him, and he exhibited these traits until the last moments of his life. We will continue to honor his legacy by emulating the values he instilled in us.
