Bernadette Nero Declouette
Bernadette "Merta" Nero Declouette was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
She was born on December 16, 1932, in Church Point, Louisiana. She moved to Lake Charles, LA where she resided for 70 years.
She recently moved to Harvest, AL where she lived with her daughter, Monica (Julius)
Heidelberg until her passing.
Bernadette was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Her faith and love for her community kept her involved; she was the first lady of the church to make liturgical banners for the altar which are still in use today. She enjoyed making popcorn balls for the church bazaar and spending time with the senior citizens group. She was a past member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, Saint Rita Court #31. Bernadette was a seamstress and found joy in sewing – making clothes and quilts for her family and others. She enjoyed cooking and baking, spending time with her family, word search games, and watching the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune game shows! Her many gracious acts of compassion left a legacy of love.
She has been reunited with her departed loved ones, her loving husband of 63 years, Elridge Declouette; her parents, Pascal Nero and Lorenia Broussard Nero; twin brother, Bernard "Murphy" Nero; sisters, Wilanna Nero Landry, Letha Nero Boutte, Lydia Nero, Nelma Nero Fontenette, and Catherine Nero.
Bernadette leaves to cherish loving memories to her four adult children, Nathan Declouette (Patricia) of Fishers, IN; Monica Declouette Heidelberg (Julius) of Harvest, AL; Gerald Declouette (Anshila) of Las Vegas, NV; Vanessa Declouette-McKeever (David II) of Richardson, TX; two sisters Beatrice Payton of Upland, CA and Helen Jones of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren and a host of loving sister-n-laws, brother-n-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
