Obituary

Bernita Hartman King was born on February 9, 1952, to Andrew A. and Mildred Bailey Hartman in Lake Charles, La.

Bernita was christened and baptized by the late Dr. W. C. Clark. Later in life she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and continued serving under the leadership of Pastor Edward Alexander Jr. She served as the adult secretary for Area Wide Youth Week. Sis. Bernita served as a Junior & Senior Usher, a member of all the choirs growing up from Junior Choir through Sanctuary Choir, she served as Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, member of the CBC Nursing Guild, Volunteer for CBC Health and Resource Fair serving in the medical area.

Bernita attended Second Ward Elementary and graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1970. She attended McNeese State University and received a degree as a Registered Nurse. She was an exceptionally good and knowledgeable nurse.

She dedicated 50 years of her life in nursing. She was blessed with the gift of sharing and caring. She served at St. Patrick and Lake Charles Memorial Hospitals, Landmark, Resthaven, Rosewood, Holly Hill (Sulphur, La.), Harbor Hospice, Senior Care Health 2000 Nursing Homes, and DaVita Dialysis. She was a member of Sister's Surviving Cancer (she was faithful in her attendance), Order of the Eastern Star Prince Hall #37, Amaranth, Heroines of Jericho, Golden Circle and Red Hat Society.

Bernita was united in Holy matrimony to Eugene King for over 25 years. They were a loving couple, and he was an excellent cook.

Her hobbies were softball and playing cards "Pokeno" she went to the movie theatre every Friday at 12:00 noon, and she loved to travel, especially on cruises.

Bernita transitioned on Christmas Eve at her Mother & Father's home with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene King, her parents, Andrew and Mildred Hartman, her maternal grandmother, Regina Broussard Bailey, paternal grandparents, Thomas and Allie Hartman, brother-in-law Archie Moore.

She leaves to cherish her memories; two sisters; Bobbie Jean Anderson Lee and Sandra Lee Hartman, brother Andrew (Priscilla) Hartman Jr. all of Lake Charles, La.; three nieces; Karen Yvette Lee of Cypress, Tx., Kimberly Junia Anderson and Kiara Hartman both of Lake Charles, La., two nephews; Clinton Harrison (Chronda) Lee of Hockley, Tx., Brad Hartman of Lake Charles, La. along with his daughter Maison Briana Hartman of Baton Rouge, La., great nieces Devin Lee Dorsey (Lee) along with their children, Kameron Austin Lee and Savana Gracelyn Dorsey of Las Vegas, NV., Amaya Monet and Moriah Nikole Johnson both of Hockley, Tx. Great nephew; Kelle Moses Lee of Las Vegas, NV, godchildren; Karen Lee, Kiara Hartman and Bryson Eugene Sledge; three sisters-in-law; Tracey Moore, Cynthia (Albert) Sledge and Andrea (Michael) Charles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
