IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bishop Joseph
Elton Fobbs
September 22, 1929 – March 19, 2013
Bishop Joseph Elton Fobbs was born from the union of Joseph Fobbs and Idell Cook in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the forth of ten children.
Bishop Fobbs was married first to Mary Eva Guillory Fobbs and then to his loving and faithful wife of forty-seven years, Geraldine Thibodeaux Fobbs. This union joined together five children, Deborah Fobbs Collins, Jacqueline Fobbs (Harry) Johnson, Kerry Wayne (Kathy) Fobbs (both deceased), Ronald James (Margaret) Simien and Cary Joseph (Blondeva) Simien.
During his lifetime, Bishop Fobbs worked for a number of trucking companies before he completed his career at Roadway. He was called to the service of God during the middle of his life and continued to minister to those in need even in his retirement.
He ministered under the tutelage of the late Pastor William Alexander at the Brownsville Church of God In Christ until under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit he started his first congregation at home with his steadfast wife, Geraldine at his side.
They ultimately founded Saint John Holiness Church C.O.G.I.C. now in the care of his sons Pastor Ronald Simien, Elder Cary Joseph Simien, and daughter, Mother Deborah Fobbs Collins. The community of God shall sorely miss Bishop Fobbs as he was a great Beacon of Righteousness and Shepard of the flock. He was a man who had the love and respect of all he knew.
Twenty-four pastors, ministers and evangelists have been birthed under the tutelage of Bishop Fobbs. His kindness, loyalty, humor and extreme honesty were character traits that aided him in leading and nurturing God''s people.
His legacy will live on in lessons learned by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a host of relatives and friends. We shall never know all the lives touched and souls won through the life and ministry of Bishop Joseph E. Fobbs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Clavis Fobbs, Lillie Mae Batiste, Mildred Robinson, Theresa Fobbs and Della Spearman. He is survived by two brothers, Clinton Fobbs and Clayton Fobbs; two sisters, Helen Edwards and Jerry Ann Hailes.
