Brenda Lee Thomas was born in Lafayette, LA to the union of Carlton and Verna (Alfred) Rideau, Sr. At the age of nine, she was baptized by Rev. Atkins Leday, Sr. at St. Peter Baptist Church in Ville Platte, LA. She became a resident of Lake Charles, LA at the age of eighteen, and on April 13, 1979, she wed Adam Thomas. They were married for 37 years and together raised three children.
Brenda was a graduate of Ville Platte High School and received her Nursing Assistant Certification from T.H. Harris Community College in Opelousas, LA. Brenda devoted her entire adult life to caring for the sick and the elderly. She was most recently employed by Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Brenda was a dedicated deaconess at Mount Olive Baptist Church for over 25 years. Over the years, she was a member of the Women''s Ministry and the Women''s Mission.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Adam Thomas of Lake Charles, LA. Her legacy continues through her only son, Skasa (Latoya) Rideau of Carencro, LA; her eldest daughter, Rosaline (Darren) Smith of Fort Worth, TX; her youngest daughter, Britney (Andrew) La Guins of Atlanta, GA; and her beloved grandchildren, Caleb, Mariya, Vivienne, Victor, Shakeela, and Indya. Left to cherish her memories are her mother and father Verna Alfred and Carlton Rideau, Sr; one sister, Yolanda Rideau; three brothers, Carlton (Mary) Rideau, Jr., Efton Rideau, and Freddie (Crystal) Rideau; godfather, Wilbert Alfred; godson, Terriel (Quatina) Alfred; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Brenda was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Ferdie and Vonita Alfred; three brothers, Allen, Paul, and Charles Rideau; one sister, Marie Rideau; and godmother, Dorothy Alfred.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Service date: August 20, 2016
Visitation will be Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 9 am to 11am at Mount Olive Baptist Church. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11 am. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
