IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cathy Louise
Fontenot
February 28, 1953 – November 29, 2022
Cathy Fontenot was born to McKeever Edwards, Sr., and Thelma Prater Edwards on February 28, 1953, in Lake Charles, LA. She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church when she was a child and was a member of the youth and senior choirs and a member of the Matrons.
Cathy graduated from Westlake High School and Sowela Tech. She was an operator at South Central Bell and retired from Olin Chemicals/Lyondell Plant in 2006 after over 30 years of service. After retirement, Cathy worked for Calcasieu Parish School System for two to three years as a Washington Marion High School secretary.
Cathy was united in Holy Matrimony to Gerald Fontenot on December 19, 1987.
She loved spending time with family and enjoyed socializing. She would often try to keep visitors at her home for as long as she could. Her family would tell her, "Cathy we are not going to spend the night". Cathy also enjoyed listening to gospel music, relaxing on her front porch, and playing computer games, especially Cookie Jam.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Brenda Arthur; brother, Barry Edwards, I; brother-in-law, Karl Miller; maternal grandparents, Austin Prater and Mittie Braxton Prater; and her paternal grandparents, Hardy Edwards, and Ann Perkins Edwards.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 35 years, Gerald Fontenot; one stepson, Terral Fontenot; one stepdaughter, Youlanda Fontenot; two brothers, McKeever Edwards, Jr. of Mossville, Louisiana, and McKenneth (Delores) Edwards of Lake Charles, Louisiana; three sisters, Ester (Kenneth) Drummond of Bronx, New York; Maranda (Pastor Austin) Jourdan of Sulphur, Louisiana; Melissa Miller of Issaquah, Washington; a godchild, Shavon Robinson; step-grandchildren, Shalanda "Janee" Fontenot, Damarcus Fontenot, Alonte Fontenot, Trevonte Fontenot, all of Houston, and Terral Fontenot, Jr. of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Cathy had a very close relationship with her cousin, Beverly Deville; and her niece, Courtney Edwards "Courtney Baby", whom she considered her daughter.
