Celestine Julia Mason was born on January 11, 1943, in Lafayette, LA, to Rodney Joseph Carrier and Enola Lewis Carrier. She was the third child of four siblings. Celestine peacefully departed this life on January 12, 2025, as her husband of 53 years sat stoically by her side.
In 1971, after only 6 months of courting, Celestine married the love of her life, Raymond Nicholas Mason, Sr. Five children were born to this union. Celestine loved the card game of Pity Pat and was also an avid sports fanatic. Specifically, having an incredible love for the game of basketball, with LeBron James being her favorite athlete. She could have also been a Division One coach for women's college basketball, particularly for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Another one of her favorite pastimes was watching soap operas and old westerns. Celestine created a beautiful home environment filled with unconditional and everlasting love and laughter where everyone was welcome. Her presence will be greatly missed.
Celestine was a long-time member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Raymond Mason, Sr., of Lake Charles, LA; her children, Vivian Mason and Raenada Mason, both of Houston, TX; Nikki Mason-Lavine (Daniel) of Lake Charles, LA, and Raymond Mason Jr. of Houston, TX; and granddaughter, Madison Rideaux. Her siblings, Rodney Carrier (Sandra) of Houston, TX, Theresa "Teefee" Carrier, and Betty Chevis (Raymond), are both from Church Point, LA. Her aunt, Laverta Deboest of Lake Charles, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Rodney Joseph Carrier, Sr., and Enola Lewis Carrier. As well as her firstborn son, Jonas Mason, her first grandson, Ethan Spell, and several uncles and aunts.
