IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cleveland Joseph
Broussard
July 2, 1933 – February 11, 2017
Cleveland Joseph Broussard, born July 2, 1933 in Carencro, Louisiana, was the first of eleven children born to Moise and Cornelia Auzenne Broussard. He departed this life on Saturday, February 11, 2017, following illnesses related to congestive heart failure. He was 83 years old.
Cleveland called Lake Charles home for 53 years and was employed by the City of Lake Charles for 27 years in the Parks & Recreation Department. When his grandchildren were younger, they were in awe of their grandfather's command of the large machinery he operated and impressed that his job was to help keep the city beautiful. Cleveland found much strength in his Catholic faith and was active for many years at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church as a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council 141 and the Holy Name Society. Before illnesses slowed his activities, he could often be found at the Knights Hall on Saturdays, barbecuing for fundraisers held by the organization.
Cleveland's greatest joys came from attending family events, teasing his grandchildren, telling and listening to a good joke, and letting the t.v. watch him, as he took frequent naps.
He is preceded in death by his oldest child, Joseph and Wendall Broussard, who died in infancy; his oldest daughter, Nina Broussard; his parents, Moise & Cornelia Broussard; his brother, Peter Broussard; three sisters —Geraldine Simien, Earline Guillory and Shirley Andrepont, and a grandson, Nathan Broussard.
Cleveland leaves many loving memories to his five sons, James (Vickie) of Houston, Texas; Marvin, Bruce (Janet) and Rapheal (Donia), all of Lake Charles and Gregory of Concord, California, and their mother, Eurby Guillory Broussard of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Jennifer Soileau (Alvin) of Lake Charles, her mother and Cleveland's companion of more than 40 years, Annabelle Simien Amos, and two of her children, whom he helped raise as his own, Jacqueline Simien of Beaumont, Texas and Paul Amos of Lake Charles. Cleveland is also survived by one brother, John Broussard; five sisters, Eveline Sam, Elizabeth Caillet, Viola Dargin, Gloria Richard and Mary Broussard. Also holding on to remembrances of his love are his grandchildren, Dianella Pete, Nichole Broussard, Jamie Broussard, James Broussard Jr., Bruce Broussard Jr., Joi Broussard, Kristen Broussard, Brianna Broussard, Gregory J. Broussard Jr., Markus Broussard, Kieren Broussard, Cobe Soileau, Alyk Soileau, Carrington Joseph, Paul Lewis, Paulden Lewis, Lakyn Simien and A'Neighya Johnson and 12 great-grandchildren.
