Clifton Joseph Avery, at the age of 82, passed away at 10:50pm, Sunday January 1, 2017 in St. Patrick's Hospital. Clifton, better known as "Uncle Brother", served as a driving force in his church and in the community. He lived all 82 years of his life in Lake Charles, nourishing and nurturing others. Clifton served in the United States Marine Corps and later became a truck driver and operator for Gulf Oxygen and Canal Co. In the community, he was an all-around handy man and earned a reputation as the lawn mower man. Another accolade he earned was that of a prayer warrior. He picked up his cross and ministered as a Eucharistic Minister, alter server, member of male bible study, bereavement committee and The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Floyd Avery of Lake Charles, his sister Josephine Avery of Lake Charles and eleven children: Christopher Avery of Lake Charles, Evelyn Williams of Porter, Texas, Charles Avery of Lake Charles, Elizabeth Shelton of Beaumont, Texas, Lillian Avery of Lake Charles, Carlton Avery of Lake Charles, Anna Lance of Plainfield, New Jersey, Mary Santiago of Atlanta, Georgia, William Avery of Beaumont, Texas, Ivan Avery of Lake Charles and Helen Avery Daniel of Lake Charles.
