Derrick Alex Cavazos, 35, our beloved son, husband, father, and friend departed this life on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Baton Rouge, LA. Derrick was born on February 23, 1986 in Lake Charles, LA to the late Daniel Cavazos and Gwen Cavazos Ringo.

Derrick was a proud 2004 graduate of St. Louis High School and continued his education at Southern University in Baton Rouge where he obtained his Bachelor's, Master's and Law degrees. He was also a former professor at Southern University. After Hurricane Laura, Derrick decided to start his business called Geaux Local to help those in need in his community that he loved.

Derrick loved spending time with his daughter, Juiliani. He was always wearing a smile, and never met a stranger. He always extended a helping hand to anyone in need, often demonstrating his kind heart to people he didn't even know.

Derrick was preceded in death by his father, Daniel (Poncho) Cavazos; maternal grandparents, William and Isabelle Alex; paternal grandparents, Daniel Dllagarza and Emily Cavazos; and his uncle, Jonathan (T-Pot) Alex.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Lauren Parker Cavazos; one daughter, Juiliani Cavazos; mother, Gwen (Ronnie) Ringo; two uncles, Victor (Tammy) Alex of Lake Charles, LA and Ricky Alex of Denver, CO; his special godson, Alex Prudhomme; and business partner, Curtis "Bubba" Maulder.
