Born on May 15, 1982, to Marie Lavell Thibodeaux and Donald Williams, Derrick D. Williams, Sr. spent his forty-four years building a life rich in relationships and memories. Derrick lived a life rooted in family, friendship, and brotherhood.
Derrick was a proud graduate of Lake Charles Boston High School, Class of 2000. A gifted athlete, he played both football and baseball during his high school years. His talent on the baseball field earned him a scholarship to Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he continued his education and athletic journey and met his former wife, Taccarra Newton.
For much of his adult life, Derrick was affectionately known as “The Cable Man.” He spent more than fifteen years working for Suddenlink. He later continued his professional journey with Carboline, where he worked for more than five years.
Derrick’s love of sports and community remained with him throughout his life. For several years, he coached softball at Henry Heights, where he also served as president of the league. More recently, bowling became another source of enjoyment and fellowship. He was a member of the Monday Night Mix Bowling League as part of the One Ball Stick team and the Petro Point Thursday Mix League as a member of the G.A.S. Team.
Brotherhood extended beyond Derrick’s family and became an important part of the life he chose to live. A proud and active member of the Prince Hall Masonic family, Derrick embraced the principles of fellowship, service, and brotherhood. His Masonic journey included Ionic Lodge No. 26 F&AM, John G. Lewis Sr. Consistory No. 165, and Al Kadr No. 153 Shrine. He also served as Past Patron of Queen of the South No. 14, Order of the Eastern Star.
Derrick was welcomed into eternal rest by his paternal grandparents, Fred and Julia Mae Williams; his maternal grandfather, Irving “Bobby” Thibodeaux; and his uncle, Johnny Thibodeaux. Also awaiting his arrival were beloved members of the Chretien family.
On October 4, 2026, at the age of forty-four, Derrick’s earthly journey came to an end, but his life continues through the people who knew him, loved him, laughed with him, and shared in the many chapters of his journey. At the heart of it all was family. Derrick was a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and the eldest of his siblings, a role that naturally made him the big brother. Among those relationships was an especially tender bond with his only sister, LaDonna. As her oldest brother, Derrick held a place in her life that was uniquely his.
Left to cherish Derrick’s memory and carry forward his legacy are his parents, Marie Lavell Thibodeaux and Donald and Alvisia Williams; his children, Telija Williams, Derrick Williams Jr., and Kyn’Sley Williams; Ky’Asia Malvo, Ka’Shiya Pinkney, Kai’Slyn Malvo, and Skye Newton, whom he lovingly embraced as his own; his granddaughter, Ionesty Dodd; his godchildren, Tala Cohn and Alyssa Jefferson; his siblings, Justin (Amilya) Victorian, Chazman (Cheyanna) Williams, Brandon Williams, Elijah (Vianca) Williams, Freddie (Shayla) Williams, and LaDonna Williams; his grandmother, Joyce Thibodeaux; his godparents, Lemoine Thibodeaux, Irving “Keith” Thibodeaux, Kenneth Nash, and Madeline Victorian; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; his Masonic brothers and sisters; his bowling teammates; and many dear friends whose lives were touched by his presence.
Derrick’s life cannot be contained within dates on a page. His story lives in the family who carries his name, the friendships he cultivated, the brotherhood he embraced, and the memories that will be told for years to come. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the imprint of his forty-four years will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
The family will receive friends and family beginning at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 17, 2026 followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. in Living Word Christian Center. Interment will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
