Dolores was born in the rural village of Parks, La. (located between St. Martinville and Breaux Bridge) to the union of Wesley and Helen Berard. She was the first child, and only girl in this family. She had three brothers, Alexander, Wesley, Jr. and Roland.
She attended Parks Elementary School and Holy Rosary Institute in Lafayette, La. She graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. She met the love of her life, Bernard Beaco, while attending Southern. Her first teaching assignment was at Parks Elementary, the same school that she attended as a child.
She and Bernard were married in June 1955 and moved to Lake Charles, La. The couple was blessed with a daughter in 1958, Yolande Renee. Dolores was employed in the Calcasieu Parish School System for 42 years. She received her Masters of Education and Specialist in Reading degrees at McNeese State University. Throughout her career she worked as a teacher and an elementary consultant for the school system.
Dolores was very active in the community. She was a devoted member of St. Henry's Catholic Church for many years. She served in many capacities at church, namely; Eucharistic Minister, bereavement committee member, and the Ladies Altar Society. She used her creative talents to lead her fellow committee members when decorating the church hall for any type of meetings or activities. She also belonged to several religious organizations including: the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver, the Lake Charles SERRA Club, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
She was a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and was very active in Zeta Psi Omega Chapter. Dolores was very active with the Mardi Gras organizations. She played an instrumental role in the founding of the Mardi Gras Krewe (Krewe de Classique) and was a charter member of the Krewe de Charlie Sioux.
She was a strong woman of incredible faith, with a deep abiding love for her family, friends, and the community. Left to cherish her memory are her; loving husband - Bernard, daughter - Yolande, grandson – Jason, great-grandchildren – Janiya and Jakorei, brother – Alex (Webb), several sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
