Kane Waters
February 11, 1917 – March 18, 2014
Doretha Inez Kane Waters was one of fourteen children born to the late Joseph Levi Kane, Sr. and Carrie Green Kane in Washington, Louisiana. She entered this world on February 11, 1917 and departed on March 18, 2014.
Mrs. Waters was baptized at an early age and was a life-long member of Warren United Methodist Church.She participated and held offices in many areas of the church. She was Membership Secretary for many years. She attended and taught Sunday School, was a member of the United Methodist Women, and was president of the Mary McGriff Bell Circle. She attended many district, regional, and state conferences.
As a young woman, Doretha wanted to become a missionary to travel the world spreading the Good News to others. Instead, she taught the Good News to her ten children and grandchildren. She was well versed in the operations and function of the Methodist Church. Next to the Upper Room, the Discipline of the United Methodist Church was a daily read.
Doretha was a graduate of Second Ward High School. She was married to the late Joys R. Waters for more than fifty years. To this union ten children were born. She was a great cook and especially known for her home made tea cakes, fruit cakes and peach cobblers.
Doretha is preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, her husband, two daughters, Joys Ruth and Sharon Waters Mallet and one son, Carl Michael Waters; son-in-law Percy Mallet, Jr. and a grandson, Sidney Jacob Franklin. She is survived by three sisters, Annie Kane Miller of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Betty Kane and Doris Kane Ambrose of Los Angeles, California. She leaves to mourn children Carver Waters, Carrie Waters, Reginald (Wanda) Waters, Doretha (Wayne) Weston and Cynthia (Don) Hawkins of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Mary Waters Franklin of Seattle, Washington and Brenda Waters of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; grand children Ronald (Alicia) Waters of Pensacola, Florida, Katera (Quinn) Fobbs, Shari Mallet, and Bettina Weston of Dallas, Texas, Percival Franklin of Seattle, Washington, Alexus (Takendra) Franklin of Concord,California, Jerome Weston and Carmen Hawkins at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and great grandchildren Asha and Aaron Waters of Pensacola, Florida, Justin and Nia Davis and Isoke Fobbs of Dallas, Texas, and Sydney Morgan Franklin of Concord, California; and many extended family members and friends.
She was well loved and will be truly missed.
