LAKE CHARLES – God sent home an angel Doris Cecile "Lil Doris" Blanchard. She died at 1:00 AM, Sunday, July 22, 2012 at her home. Doris was born on March 1, 1987 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She had lived in Lake Charles for 23 years. For the past two years, she resided in Cypress, TX, where she was teaching and working on a P.H.D. in Juvenile Justice at Prairie View A&M University. She was one semester away from completing her degree. She was a 2005 honor graduate from Washington-Marion Magnet High School and was a section leader in the Washington-Marion "Marching Juke Box Band". She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychology from McNeese State University. She was a member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. She was also a member of the National Association of University Women and Prairie View A & M University Doctoral Association. Doris was a lifelong sufferer of migraine headaches and her Doctoral dissertation focused on Migraines and the effects on Juveniles in the Criminal Justice System. She was very passionate about her work and studies, but always set aside time to laugh and hang out with her family.
Survivors include her father, Ronald Blanchard and her mother Peggy (Guidry) Blanchard; one brother, Ron Blanchard; one sister, Deanne Blanchard; maternal grandparents, Rodney and Doris Guidry; paternal grandmother, Cecelia Blanchard, all of Lake Charles: aunts, Drucilla (Ronald) Mayo, Jacqueline Reed, Katie (Van) Johnson, Georgia Brown, all of Lake Charles, LA; Edith Guidry, Sunset, LA; Patricia (Thomas)Lewis, Fayetteville, GA; Uncles, John Roland Guidry, Lafayette, LA; and Donald (Dinah Lee) Blanchard, Lake Charles, LA: and her godmother, Donna Sams, Baytown; godchild, Alina Reed, Lake Charles; special sisters, Lisa Watley and Erica Lazard, Lake Charles; and a host of friends and cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Austin Blanchard and her aunt, Yolanda Blanchard.
Her funeral will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 27, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA., under the direction of Combre Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 8 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
