Dorothy M. Chavis

Dorothy Marie LeBlanc Chavis, lovingly known as “Dot,” entered eternal rest on July 19, 2026, at the age of 80, surrounded by her daughters and family. Born on September 17, 1945, to the late Edward and Odessa LeBlanc, she was the cherished middle child and a blessing to her parents and siblings.

Dorothy lived a long, meaningful life grounded in faith, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her spiritual journey began early, and she was baptized under the leadership of Dr. W.C. Clark. She continued to grow spiritually at Christian Baptist Church under Dr. Clark, Reverend Al G. Stevens, Reverend Abbie Monroe Jr., and her current Pastor/Teacher, Reverend Edward Alexander. Dorothy treasured attending the 8 a.m. service, sharing breakfast afterward with “The Breakfast Club,” participating in Hour of Power, traveling to support pastor engagements, and enjoying senior activities at CBC and throughout the community.

She attended First and Second Ward Colored School and proudly graduated from W.O. Boston High School. Dorothy’s love for cooking led her to a long career as a Food Service Technician at St. Patrick Hospital, where she served faithfully for over 40 years.

Dorothy’s greatest gift was her heart for giving. She never turned anyone away and made sure the needs of family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers were met—whether with a warm meal or a place to rest. She found joy in simple moments, especially sitting on the porch, drinking coffee, and talking with her sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodgers “Duggie” Chavis; parents, Edward and Odessa LeBlanc; infant daughter, Rodessa Lynn Ceasar; sisters, Georgianna Bilbo and Florence Fontenot; brother/godson, Terrell LeBlanc; grandparents, Crawford (Stella) Syas and Henry (Louisiana) Hebert; uncles, Crawford, Raymond, and Tommy Syas; daughter-in-law, Shirley Ceasar; and brother-in-law, Anthony Fontenot Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Eva (Burley) Thompson Sr., Yolanda (John Peter) Launza, Robert Ceasar, and Tyrone Ceasar; partner, Joshua Senegal; brother-in-law, Allen Bilbo Sr.; and godchildren, Vincent Bean and Kevin Syas.

Dorothy was blessed with eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved unconditionally. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of Herbert Ceasar, Lakeisha Ceasar Lang, Kimberly (Allen) Miller, Burley Thompson Jr., Gerica Geyen, Dr. Amberly Thompson (fiancé LeMark Gibson), Terrlyn Geyen, Evan Thompson, Christa Launza, Lashone Bushnell, and Alexia Pouchie. Her great-grandchildren: Jordyn Geyen, Payton Richard, Kenneth Lang III, Allen Miller Jr., Ayden Miller, Kameron Lang, Kera Miller, Kensley Lang, Kaylie Miller, A’mare Miller, Carter Geyen, La’Miya Evans, Ava Gibson, Desirre Brown, Zaylen Brown, Dillian Davis, and Zavier Bushnell—will forever remember holidays, school activities, and the meals she lovingly prepared.

Dorothy will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, her special cousin Frances Charles, and her porch cousin, Elaine Street’s Maurine Johnson.

Visitation begins at 9:00 A.M. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 1, 2026 in Christian Baptist Church. Interment will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
