Obituary

Sis. Dorothy Mae Green fought the fight of a committed and dedicated soldier; she kept the faith and now she has gone on to heaven to be with God. Sis. Dorothy Green was born in Whiteville, LA, on December 25, 1926, to the late Leon Murray and Loney Harris. Dorothy Green departed this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 1:30 PM.

Dorothy Mae Green was baptized and became a Christian at an early age. Upon moving from Whiteville, LA in 1944, she moved to Lake Charles, LA, and joined Zion Tabernacle under the leadership of the late N.P. Jones. She remained a member of Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church until her death under the pastoralship of Reverend Alvin Brass, Pastor.

Dorothy Green later attended Sowela trade school earning a degree in nursing as a CNA. After earning her degree as a CNA, she worked at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for 10 years upon retiring. Her love for helping and caring for her patients was her top priority. She was an inspiring and dedicated woman baking potato pies for the Lake Charles Consumer Co-op. These pies were placed in various businesses and grocery stores.

Sis. Dorothy Green worked in many organizations within the church. She directed a youth choir, taught Sunday school, was President of the Deaconess Board and Mission Sister with the Josephine Harris Circle, member of Salt Ministry, and sang in the Senior Choir.

Her Christian life was like the fragrance of a beautiful rose, and she influenced every life in this community and adjacent ones.

Dorothy Green was married to the late Henry Green, Sr., and no children were born into this union. Dorothy Green leaves her one and only daughter, Theresa (Reverend Larry) Johnson, to cherish her memory. Remaining to cherish her memories is one brother, Israel Murray of San Diego; three sisters, Verdie Skinner, and Geraldine Gardenhi both of Missouri City, TX and Catherine (Morris) Lewis of Lake Charles, LA. Other remaining family members are two grandsons, Walter (Regina) Martin of Los Angeles and Michael (Perelean) Martin of Nashville, TN; other grandchildren, Renae, Dwayne, and Denise Toussaint of Lake Charles, LA; great-grandchildren, Jazzmin, Taylor, Briona, Ajhane, D'Anthony, and Xavier Martin; one great-great-grandson, Noah Garcia.

Her parents, Leon, and Loney Murray preceded her in death. From this union, five brothers preceded her in death, Chester, Warren, Luster, Wilbert, and Leon Murray; two sisters, Gloria Murray, and Lois (Charles) Clement; and one stepdaughter, Clara Toussaint.
