Obituary

Mr. Earl Lawrence Ringo Jr. was born May 1, 1927, in Lake Charles, to the parents of Earl Lawrence Ringo Sr. and Evelyn Alexander Ringo.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at new Emanuel Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Goins.Earl Ringo joined the U.S. Army in 1945 in San Francisco, Calif., and was honorably discharged in 1949. He retired from the U.S. Postal Services after 28 years of service. He was also a noted activist in the integration of southwest La. schools.

God called Earl home on Sunday evening, June 22, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Lawrence Ringo Sr.; his mother, Evelyn Alexander Ringo; and his eldest son, Johnny Earl Ringo.

He leaves to cherish in memory his wife of 63 years, Nellie Huddleston Ringo; five sons, Robert, Jerome (Mary), Bennie (Geri), Wendell and Ronnie (Gwen), all of Lake Charles. Also left to cherish his memory are 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and one uncle, Ivory Alexander Sr.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, in Combre Funeral Home. Pastor Mary Guidry-Ringo will officiate. Burial will be in Hi-Mount Cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 9 a.m. Wednesday in Combre Funeral Home.
