Eddie Marie Hawkins, lovingly known to everyone as "Dee Dee" was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Mercydee Williams. She later moved to Lake Charles attended school and met and married the love of her life, John E. Hawkins Sr. on July 15, 1960.

Dee Dee's passions were caring for her family, reading, crafting, and decorating for events. She had a big heart and was always there to help anyone in need. She enjoyed doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mercydee Williams, husband John E. Hawkins Sr., brothers Arthur, L.C, and Cleo Williams, daughter Ramona Simon, and grandson Troy  Hawkins.

She leaves behind her loving sister Merid Dean Malveaux, brother Joel (Helen) Wiliams children: Christopher (Karen), John Jr (Gloria), April (Gerald), Reginald (Lisa), Kevin (Geraldine), and Suzanne. Also, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
