Elrene Gallo Handy was born to Paul and Alice Gallo in Opelousas, LA on April 25, 1928. She married Morris Handy, Sr. and resided in Westlake, LA most of her life. They raised three sons together. Elrene was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church where she attended regularly until her illness required that she relocate with family in Houston, TX in 2011. Elrene passed away on June 9, 2015 from Alzheimer''s complications. She was 87 years old.

Elrene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son, Jerald Daniel. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Thibodeaux, Evelyn and Ella Mae Gallo; and two brothers, Harold and Clarence Gallo.

Elrene leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Morris, Jr. (Joyce) and Donald Ray (Kendra). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Chris Handy, Quinn (Corey) Pitre, Bruce Handy, Jade Handy, Nikolas Rice and Kayla Handy; and three great grandchildren, Ariel Neal, Chelsey and Chase Pitre; and two sisters, Bertha Valentine (Joe) and Eva Gallo. All reside in Houston, TX.

Elrene took great pleasure in caring for her family and friends. She especially loved children and was always willing to spend time with them. She loved gardening and cooking, as well. The wonderful holiday family meals that she orchestrated will be missed. She believed in God and now has gone home to rest in His everlasting arms of care.

Service date: June 13, 2015

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Westlake, LA. Father Albert Borel will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in Westlake, LA, under the direction of Combre Funeral Home of Lake Charles, LA. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the church.
