The Life of Our Beautiful Mother

On A Beautiful Thursday, May 24, 1934, a baby girl Elsie Mae Thomas-Jones, 83, was born in Rosa, Louisiana to her parents Ducy Thomas and Hender Jones.  She was the oldest of seven children born to her mother Hender Jones.

Elsie resided in Lake Charles, Louisiana most of her life.  She worked at City Valley Cleaners and was also an Avon Representative for many years.   Elsie retired to take care of her husband (J. C. Jones) and she did volunteer work at the Women's Shelter.  Elsie was a very hard worker!

Elsie accepted Christ in her early years.  She was a long time member of Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend H. Arvie and remained a faithful member under the leadership of Reverend Arthur Cullivan.

On July 17, 2010 at Throne of Grace Fellowship Church, Elsie was baptized by Senior Pastor Wilton J. Red and her son Deacon Sonny Jones.  She also attended New Birth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jimmy Joseph who was like a second son to her.  Elsie served on the usher board, food pantry and clothes ministry.

Elsie's first marriage was to Roosevelt Jones and from this union they had one son, Sonny Jones.  Her second marriage of 32 plus years was to J. C. Jones.  Elsie was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Elsie LOVED All Her Family Dearly and she expressed that LOVE over the years in many ways.

Elsie made her final transition from this earthly life into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.  Her parents, husband (J. C. Jones), three brothers, Adam Mingo, Frank Jones, Perkins Jones, half sister, Mary Lee Thomas-Harris, and a granddaughter, Nikki Fontenot all preceded her in death.

Her loving memories will be cherished by her beloved son, Sonny (Jenny) Jones of Fresno, Texas; two grandsons, Dedrick Fontenot of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Jeremiah (Melanie) Jones of Fresno, Texas; two granddaughters, Jenika Jones of Stafford, Texas and Jada Jones of Huntsville, Texas; one brother, Earl (Erma) Jones, two sisters, Audrey Kelly and Laura Jones all of Lake Charles, Louisiana; four great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Elsie Mae will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her!
