IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elsie Mary
Thibodeaux
September 23, 1930 – August 9, 2020
Elsie Mary Simien Thibodeaux, 89, of Lake Charles, Louisiana departed this life, peacefully on Sunday, August 9th, 2020 at 7:20am. She was surrounded by her loving children as she was called home. Her eldest, Brenda, was her caretaker for over 39 years.
Elsie was born on September 23, 1930 to the late Tojan and Annie Simien. She married the late Wilmon Thibodeaux on June 6, 19**. God blessed Elsie with 8 children: 5 daughters and 3 sons.
She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and attended mass weekly until her health no longer permitted her physical attendance in mass. It was then that Gertrude Gallien faithfully made way for her to receive the body of Christ in the comfort of her own home. She believed in the power of prayer and showed it by praying the rosary daily. Elsie's prayers will continue to provide protection and healing for her children and grandchildren for many years. Elsie was a member of Ladies Auxiliary St. Rita Court No. 31, Alter and Rosary Society, Bank St. Rosary Group, Bazaar Committee and Senior Ladies of Distinction. She worked diligently for Sacred Heart School and Church to ensure that all her children received a Catholic Education.
Elsie was a loving and caring homemaker who taught her children that through God, all things are possible. Not only did she raise her eight children, she also raised an entire village. She babysat many children over the years, many of whom became like family. Her grandchildren never had to attend daycare because Grandma Elsie's house was their daycare.
Elsie prided herself in family traditions centered around her love for cooking and entertaining. She looked forward to her annual Good Friday Fish Fry where her children would host her nieces, nephews, grandkids and extended family.
Elsie was kind and welcoming to everyone she encountered and never met a stranger. She kept those around her laughing. She loved to prank, joke and was always the life of the party.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tojan and Annie Simien; husband, Wilmon Thibodeaux; eight sisters, Beulah Lee, Frances Lee, Bernice Smith, Lacy Simien, Theresa Simien, Lou Ella Jones, Ella Mae Jones and Zelia Bohanan; five brothers, Clifford, Wilson, Wilton, Gene, her twin brother Asie Simien and her pet dog Foxy.
She leaves to cherish her memories eight children, Brenda Thibodeaux, Mark (Ethel) Thibodeaux of Lake Charles, La., Rena Malveaux of Houston, Tx., Renee Soileau, Freda (Eddie) Stokes, Patrick Thibodeaux, Deborah Thibodeaux and Christopher (Tara) Simien of Lake Charles, La. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Mark II (Chandra), Kayla, Herbert, Kiendra, Ra'mone, Marvyn (Heather), Tiffany (Dezmen), Jessica, Jalen, Elsie (Michael), Megan, Alex, Alexis, Tyler and Crysten. Grandma Elsie will also be missed by her fifteen great-grandchildren, two siblings, Willis (Sylvia) Simien and Delsie (Joe) Citizen of Denver, Co. and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and her pet dog Rikor.
Elsie will also be cherished by her dear friends Cheryl Riley and Bessie Gallow who cared for and nurtured her as if she were their mother. As well as her phone buddies Romanel Hollier and Theresa Blanchard.
