Obituary

Sister Emma Bell Jacob Johnson blessed by God for 100 years spent her life working for God, her church and her family. She began this journey of a long life on November 18, 1912 when Annie Williams and Ilvare Jacob received this blessing from God. Sis. Johnson was born in Moreauville, LA. She was welcomed by her five (5) brothers; Calvin, Willis, Thedore, Murlin and Vernon Jacob and her four (4) sisters; Essie Pearl Guillory, Suluter Bell Scott, Mattie Thresher and Pnola White.

At an early age Sis. Johnson accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Starlight Baptist Church in Rayne, LA by the late Rev. Hallback.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Bro. Doris Rochester. She later married Bro. Lesso Johnson. Sis. Johnson was the mother of three sons; Tillman Rochester, Sr., Stanley Rochester and Wilbert Victor.

Sis. E.B. Johnson united with the New Sunlight Baptist Church in 1943. For almost 70 years, She was a faithful and dedicated member of New Sunlight Baptist Church. For many years she was Director of the Baptist Training Union (BTU), Vacation Bible School Director, and a member of the Women Home Mission, where she served as pianist. She was a member of the Sunday School Dept., a Deaconess, Sr. Choir member and served on many church committees. At one time she was a cook at the Day Care Center.

She also served faithfully in the Seventh District Baptist Association:, first Leader of the Calcasieu – Jeff Davis Area, attended and worked in the Congress of Christian Education especially the BTU Division. For many years she chaperoned the Youth of New Sunlight as delegates to the annual session.

A very hard worker, Sis. Johnson cooked for years at the Candlelight Inn and Pitt Grill, she was a beautician, a music teacher and a voter commissioner. One of her greatest joys was playing games with her grandchildren. Sis. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, Stanley Rochester, and all of her brothers and sisters.

Those left to continue her legacy of love and memories are two sons; Tillman Rochester, Sr. and Wilbert Victor; her grandchildren; Dwayne Thomas, Jennifer (Roland) Johnson, Tillman (Sharon) Rochester II, Derrick (Jackie) Rochester, Sonja (Darnell) Hall, Shelia Rochester Franklin, Michelle Rochester Hall, Stanley Ray, Stanley (Genna) Rochester, Jr., Bryan Victor, Kenneth (Bernedett) Victor, Gerald Victor, Stephanie Victor, Brian Victor, Mark Victor and Angela (Derek) Freeman. Also 24 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and one brother-in-law, Ruben Johnson. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The Rev. Harold Robinson, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 – 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9th, 2013 and Funeral 11 a.m. at New Sunlight Baptist Church, 515 V.E. Washington Street.
