Eva Chenier Jones was born September 24, 1936, in Leonville, Louisiana to the late Leonard Chenier, Sr and Virginia Lastrapes Chenier. She was raised in a strict Christian home because her daddy did not play about his children and especially his daughters. Pop was strict and required work in the fields but did not allow his children to work in any other fields. Eva never claimed to be the best or fastest worker because she had to make sure her “gloves” were cut just right to avoid any scars. Their family was raised as Catholics and Eva followed that faith for most of her adult life. It was not until later when Eva decided to become baptized and join Messiah Missionary Baptist church.

Eva met the love of her life, Mckinley “Kenny” Jones, in 1952 at the senior prom dance of Plaisance High School. On November 13, 1954, they were united in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with three children Terry Sr., Tammy, and Dwight.

Eva was a strong-willed, outspoken woman who never hesitated to tell you exactly how she felt or what she did not like. She often shared the story of being offered the opportunity to become Miss Louisiana. But in those days, with limited financial resources and the wrong skin color, she knew she would never be given the chance to win, no matter how beautiful she was or how gracefully she carried herself.

Even so, Eva was a true Queen in every sense of the word. She reigned through the love she poured into her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. She never thought twice about taking in a child, making sure they were fed, or rocking them to sleep. That was simply how she loved.

If a sibling needed care, Eva would travel wherever she had to go to be there. She lovingly watched over her nieces and nephews, and there was absolutely nothing she would not do for her children or grandchildren. If something needed to be handled, Kenny would drive the car, and Eva would get dressed up because she was going to "go get things straight."

If you happened to be passing through town, you could count on Eva preparing a delicious pot of crawfish étouffée and baking her famous Sock-It-to-Me Cake. Caring for others brought her so much joy that she made it her life's work. As a caregiver, she extended the same compassion, kindness, and unwavering love to every family she served throughout the years.

Eva's heart was enormous. She was always willing to help anyone, anytime, even if it meant traveling long distances. She showed up for people—especially her family—without hesitation.

Not only was Eva beautiful on the inside, but she always turned heads whenever she stepped out. Our Queen could never be overlooked. Her signature look included perfectly polished red nails, a statement “hat” for the occasion, and, of course, her unforgettable red lipstick.

If there is one thing everyone will always remember about Eva "Chenier" Jones, it is this: she was not going anywhere without a tube of red lipstick. She often said that if she stepped out looking her best with that bold red lip, it did not matter if her pocketbook was empty. She would still stand tall, speak her mind, and never be afraid to stand up for what was right.

That bold red lipstick became more than her signature—it became a symbol of her confidence, her strength, her dignity, and the fearless spirit that made Eva "Chenier" Jones our forever Queen.

Our Queen will forever be loved, missed, and all the memories cherished by her children, Terry (Jennifer) Jones, Sr., Tammy Jones of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Dwight (Brenda) Jones of Houston, Texas. Seven grandchildren, Tobias Jackson, LaNay Jones, Terrilyn Jones, Terry Jones, Jr., Leann Jones, Varsha Jones, Christina Jones, and Nevaeh Jones. Eight great grandchildren, Shannon Booker, Jr., Isaiah Jones, Jaxson Roberts, Graham Jones, Luna LeMelle, Geri LeMelle, Jalyssa, Krystle and D.J. Griffin. Five great great grandchildren; Kyron Ware, Austin Celestine, DeVinchi General, Emberly Manual, Amiri Perkins. A Goddaughter, Yolanda Straughter and Godson, Taylor Lewis. Best friend of thirty plus years, Lorena Randle. Bonus family, the Fergusons (Craig, Nancy, Tyler, Cale, and Bailey). Her brother-in-law, Leander Richard and sister-in-law, Annie Ree Thiery. As the last sibling of thirteen children, Eva will be missed by the many nieces and nephews, and others that loved her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Sr., and Virginia Chenier. Her husband, McKinley (Kenny) Jones will be waiting. Her daughter – in – law, Dawn Jackson Jones and son – in – law, Gerald Jones. Three brothers: Leonard, Jr., Ben Chenier, and Joseph Wilton Chenier; nine sisters; Beatrice Sias, Nora Roberts, Carrie Comeaux, Anna Guidry, Linda Quebedeaux, Elvina Portier, Theresa Lazard, Mary Richard, and Mable Lazard. Both of her Goddaughters; Tracy Theresa Lazard and Elizabeth Jones.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. in Living Word Christian Center. Interment will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
