Florence Floyd Fontenot born March 2, 1925, of Lake Charles left this world on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in a local hospital surrounded by her family.  She was preceded in death by her husband Houston Fontenot, Jr. to whom she was married to for 65 years; they resided in Lake Charles, LA.

Florence was born to Edmonia Lawrence of St. Martinsville, La., and Robert Floyd of Loreauville, La.   She attended school at Sacred Heart where she performed many years of service for both the church and the school.  Florence was instrumental in the startup of the School Food Service Program in Lake Charles's Catholic Schools which were then a part of the Diocese of Lafayette, LA. She was employed by Sacred Heart Catholic School in the food service program where she worked as cafeteria manager for twenty-nine years.     She was a lifelong member of St. Rita Court #31, Ladies Auxiliary and the 4 ^th Degree Knights of St. Peter Claver wives organization where she held various offices.  Florence became a member of St. Henry Catholic Church 44 years ago where she continued to share her talents in food service with both St. Henry and Sacred Heart.  She also served as Extraordinary Minister of the Altar.

Florence is survived by two children, Thail (Herbert) Pete and Gerald (Cathy) Fontenot of Lake Charles, LA; one brother, Florce (Hazel) Floyd of Lake Charles, LA; two sisters-in-law; Alice Floyd of Pasadena, California and Cora Floyd of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Deborah Benjamin, four brothers; Irving, Ernest, Clarence, and Ward, and two sisters; Ethel Guidry, and Lizzie Landry.

Visitation will be at Combre Funeral Home, Lake Charles, LA, Friday, June 8, 2013 from 6 to 9  PM.  Her funeral will be Saturday, February 9th, at St. Henry Catholic Church at 9:30 AM.  Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park immediately following the mass.
