May 29, 1955 – June 18, 2016
Gary James Pappion, Sr. went to his heavenly reward on June 18, 2016. He was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to many. He was born 2nd of 10 children originally, and then became a beloved older brother to five step-siblings as well. Gary loved spending time with his family. He loved his children and grandchildren, and was extremely proud of all of them. His hobbies included going to the movies and watching sports on TV, especially the New Orleans Saints. He also enjoyed playing croquet, shooting pool and playing cards. His all-time favorite hobby was star-gazing. Gary loved looking at the heavens through his telescope. He also loved to barbeque and he was great at it. When asked what his secret to great barbeque was, he would respond, "Nobody touches the grill".
As a youngster, Gary was an altar server and played saxophone in the high school band. He was a butcher by trade and was employed at Big Easy Foods Company. He was one of those people who always had a smile on his face.
He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Starr Pappion, father, Whittaker Pappion, step-father, James R. Granger, and step-sister, Suzette Granger
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Gary James (Jo''D) Pappion, Jr. (Barbara), daughters, Temica Pappion and Louella Michelle Pappion of Lake Charles, mother, Maurine Pappion Granger of Lake Charles, brothers Eddie Pappion, Mark Pappion (Gina), Bernard Pappion, Stephan Pappion, Kevin Pappion (Rae Ann) all of Lake Charles, brother, Anthony (Tim) Pappion (Lena) of Cheyenne, WY, step-brother James Richard (Ricky) Granger of New Orleans, LA, sisters, Maura Woods (Derek), Renita Papillion (Jason) of Lake Charles, Renee Lainez (Don) of Sulphur, LA, step-sisters Deneen Cates of Lafayette, LA, Emily Granger of Ocean Springs, MS, and Ronette Granger of Baton Rouge, LA, brother of the heart, David Nelson of Lake Charles, god-daughter, Rochelle Pappion, 19 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Service date: June 24, 2016
Visitation at Combre Funeral Home Friday, June 24, 2016, 8:00 am - 10:30 am; Rosary: 9:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Henry Catholic Church. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
