February 22, 1929 – August 24, 2018
Georgia Picou Thomas, affectionately known as "Momma Georgia", was born on February 22, 1929 to the union of Thomas Picou Sr. and Flossie Watson Picou in Houma, LA. She was the product of a loving family where she had four sisters and two brothers. She was reared in the Baptist faith and accepted Christ as her Savior.
Georgia married Jeff Thomas, Sr. To their union, six children were born: Patricia Thomas, Jeff Thomas, Jr., Mary Susan Thomas, Dana Thomas, Timmy Lee Thomas, and Stevens Ray Thomas.
She relocated to Lake Charles, LA in 1969, and established her church home at New Sunlight Baptist Church. She later transferred her membership to Bethel Metropolitan Baptist Church. Though she was a member of Bethel, she often attended Christian Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. She actively participated in many church functions, until her health limited her attendance.
Momma Georgia had a passion for cooking. Her passion inspired her to own her own diner, "Georgia's Diner" on Enterprise Boulevard in Lake Charles, LA. She often prepared dishes when her church hosted functions. She continued her passion for cooking, until she began having problems with her knees.
After closing her diner, Momma Georgia worked at New Sunlight Baptist Church Daycare Center, until its closure. She then became a Foster Grandparent with the Foster Grandparent Program where she assisted elementary students in the Calcasieu Parish School System.
On Friday, August 24, 2018 at approximately 7:28 PM, Georgia gained her heavenly wings. She departed her earthly life with her family nearby.
