Gertie Lee Carriere, 83, of Hockley, Texas transitioned peacefully from this life on December 7, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, faith, and charity.

Gertie Lee Carriere was born October 27, 1941, in Lacassine, LA to the late Willie Sr. and Mary (Alma) Carrier, the fourth of twelve children and was preceded in death by 7 siblings: John Carrier Sr., Ella Mae Stewart, Nathalee (Dorothy) Disnuke, Thomas Carrier Sr., Gerald Carrier Sr., Willie Carrier Jr., and Frank Carrier. The family moved to Lake Charles, LA where they became members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She embraced a life rich in family and service. She worked as a baker/cook for 30 plus years. Upon retirement she volunteered with the Foster Grandparent Program. She was a caregiver to her neighbor, brother, and mother. Her unmatched hospitality and culinary expertise turned every gathering into a celebration, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memories three children: Nedra Carrier of Hockley, Texas, Gerald (Eva) Carrier of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Ravine (Anthony) Reed of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren Jamaal (Jacqueline) Shelton of Beaumont, Texas, Jacinta Shelton of Dallas, Texas, Shaterica Lloyd of Houston, Texas, Faith Carrier of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Anthony Graham of Austin, Texas, and Diamond Reed of Houston, Texas, six great-grandchildren Erin Barnwell, Terius Barnwell, Elyse Barnwell, Jalise Shelton, Maisen and Maddex Rhodes, one brother Terry (Margaret) Carrier of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, three sisters Patricia (Michael) Parker of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Conzy (Johnny) Carter of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Kempa Carriere of Glen Burnie, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
