Obituary

Mr. Gervis Guillory was born October 17, 1924 in Mallet, Louisiana. He was a faithful member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mallet until he moved to Lake Charles in 1952. He then became a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and at the time of his passing, he was a faithful member of St. Henry's Catholic Church, where he served as a dedicated usher at the 4:00 Saturday Vigil Mass. He was a past member of the Knights of Peter Claver and a present member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Guillory retired from PPG Industries after 25 years of service. He was a past member of Laborer Local 207, and International Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 470. He also was a former deputy of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department. He enjoyed politics with a passion and was co-founder of St. Martin de Porres Nursing Home. He loved the game of baseball, and coached youth and young adults' baseball teams within the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's League in the 1960s. Mr. Guillory also managed a semi pro baseball team, often taking his Lake Charles team to the country towns of South Louisiana.

When Mr. Guillory moved to Lake Charles he settled in the Car Shop community. He was instrumental in establishing the Hillcrest Recreation Park for the children of the Car Shop community in the 1960s.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters Theresa (Gale) Brignac, husband Paul; and Mary (Janet) Labbé, both of Lake Charles; three sons Merrill Guillory, wife Theresa; Martin Guillory, wife Jackie; and Darrell Guillory all of Lake Charles. Grandchildren Gisele Johnson, husband Bobby of Spring, Texas; Myron Guillory, wife Danielle of New Orleans, Louisiana; Michael Paul Brignac, wife Kimberly of Memphis, Tennessee; Phyllis Friddle, husband Jeffery; Julian Guillory, Sarah Brignac, Haley Labbé, Breanna Labbé, Allie Labbé, and Colby Arceneaux, all of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Great Grandchildren Mason Guillory, Khloe Brignac, Arion Friddle, Jalyn Friddle, Joshua Johnson, and Jared Washington; also a very special friend of the family Martha Thibodeaux. Two sisters Onelia Reney, husband Harrison of Houston, Texas and Barbara Dean Semien of Baytown, Texas. Sister-in-laws Shirley Guillory of Mallet, Louisiana and Norlice Olivier of San Francisco, California. Brother-in-law Jeffery Boutte, wife Irma of Frelot Cove, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lillian Boutte Guillory; parents Celestin and Eugenie Guillory; two sons Ronald J. Guillory and Harvey D. Guillory; one granddaughter Desiree N. Guillory; one brother Ryan Guillory; one sister Marie Katie Durousseau; and one son-in-law Hayward J. Labbé, Jr.

Visitation for Mr. Romain Gervis Guillory, "GoYo" will be Friday, March 1, 2013 at Combre Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Vigil and Rosary will start at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 2, 2013 at St. Henry Catholic Church at 10:30 am. Combre Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements with interment in Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
