Gloria Jean Murvin Lavergne was quietly called home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2018,
M D Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Gloria Jean Murvin Lavergne, 67 years old, was the 5th child born on April 12, 1951 to the late James Murvin Sr. and Azlene Wilson Murvin in Pahokee, Florida. At an early age she went to live with her Godparents the late James and the late Ruth McCullough in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Sis. Gloria graduated from Dillard Comprehensive High School in 1969 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1973. While attending Southern University, she met and married the late Robert Lavergne Jr. To this union, she was blessed with one son Robert Lavergne III and one daughter Nicole Yvette Lavergne.

Sis. Gloria was reared in a Christian home where she accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She was a very active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church until the death of Pastor AG Stevens, and until her death she was a faithful member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Robert E. Campbell Jr.
Sis. Gloria was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., National Association of University Women (NAUW), Louisiana Association of Educators (LAE) and National Education Association (NEA).

She was a teacher in the Baton Rouge school district and various schools in the Calcasieu Parish School District. Until her death, she was a Behavior Facilitator for Calcasieu Parish School Board.

Gloria enjoyed fishing, cooking, baking and working with special need children. Gloria loved her friends and family very much. She was preceded in death by her loving Godparents James and Ruth McCullough, her father James Murvin Sr.; four brothers: James Murvin Jr., Terry Murvin, Kenneth Murvin, Willie Murvin and one sister: Donnie Jean.

She leaves to Cherish her memories, son Robert Lavergne III (Luwanna), daughter Nicole Lavergne. Seven sisters: Emma Jean Murvin, Lula Walker (Bobby), Diana Jenkins (Joe), Karen Hill (Harvey), Belinda Murvin, Nettie Riles all of Florida and Paulette Riles Mundle of New Jersey. Three brothers: Darrell Murvin, Thomas Murvin (Tarsha) and Benny Murvin (Linda) of Florida.

six grandchildren: Alexis Reed Bilbo (Brandon), Robert B. Lavergne, Xavier Rashawn Housley, Courtney Summer Lavergne, Kellie Duncan and Kelsey Duncan all of Louisiana. Two great grandkids: Aubrie Rubin and Auriana Bilbo and a host of other relations and friends.
