LAKE CHARLES — Gustavia Broussard Edwards, 80, passed through heaven's gates on, Thursday, December 27, 2012 at a local hospital.

Gustavia was born on December 7, 1932 in Lewisburg, La. to the late Wilfred and Augustine Broussard. She was devoted to her husband and children. She cherished the times she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Gustavia was gracious, generous, kind and loving person. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and caring for her family and others. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers as long as her health allowed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her oldest son, Joseph Leon Edwards; one brother, Obery Broussard.

Among those left to cherish the memory of Gustavia, are her husband, John Edwards Jr.; one daughter Norma Jean Vitor both of Lake Charles, La.; five sons, Larry Edwards, Phillip(Bridgette) Edwards, Daniel(Felicia) Edwards all of Dallas, Tx., Darrell(Sandra) Edwards of Atlanta, Ga., and Rapheal(Jeanette) Edwards of Lake Charles, La.; 16 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren; she was also the caregiver of one granddaughter, Jasmine Vital; and one great granddaughter, Dasia Vitor; three great grandsons, Howard Ronald Guillory III, Donovan Guillory and Demond Delahoussaye Jr.; She also leaves three sisters Geraldine Doucet, Joyce Semien, and Betty Chavis all of Lake Charles, La.; six brothers, Joseph Broussard of Orlando, Ca., Gerald Broussard and Ronald Broussard of Lafayette, La., John Wilfred Broussard Jr., Dondald Broussard, and Darrell Broussard all of Lake Charles, La.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Rojo Antony H.G.N will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 8 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family would like to the staff of St. Patrick's hospital, and the doctors who cared for her.
