Obituary

Harold James Daniel was born on January 26, 1947, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was the twelfth of twelve children born to the late Marshall Daniel, Sr. and Octavia Thierry Daniel. Harold transitioned from his earthly home on Monday, December 15, 2025.

Harold was reared in a loving Christian home and was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy in his youth. He was a proud 1964 graduate of Washington High School. Following graduation, Harold enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably for three years. During his military service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Harold was honorably discharged on December 16, 1967. He was a proud Vietnam veteran, often recognized by his Vietnam veteran caps, which he wore on most occasions as a symbol of honor and service.

Following his military service, Harold relocated to Richmond, California, where he was employed with Pacific Gas & Electric Company until retirement. During those years, he could often be found enjoying trail rides, zydeco music, dancing, and rodeos—activities that reflected his love for culture, music, and community.

In 2003, Harold returned home to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he established his homestead in the LeBleu Settlement community. Shortly thereafter, on September 29, 2003, he joined the Knights of Peter Claver, Immaculate Heart of Mary Council #141. Through his years of faithful service, dedication, and active membership, Harold attained the rank of Third Degree Knight. He exemplified true brotherhood through his willingness to serve others, leaving a lasting impact on the organization. In recognition of his outstanding dedication and service, he was honored with the 2009 Knight of the Year – Outstanding Service Award. At the time of his passing, Harold was a Third Degree Knight with Immaculate Heart of Mary Council #141.

Harold found great joy in cooking, specially making his well-known potato salad. He faithfully cooked and served dinners at the Knights Hall on Saturdays and took pride in preparing and serving Thanksgiving dinners each year. He loved attending zydeco dances and cherished time spent with his brothers and nephews—often sitting beneath the Daniel tree at the Lot, sharing stories, laughter, and a cold Miller Lite.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Octavia Thierry Daniel, and his siblings: Sylvester, Mary Daniel England, Alma Georgia Daniel Thomas, Marshall, Michael, Anthony, Julian, Jerome, and Lionel Daniel.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: His son, Damone Daniel of Oakland, California; his twin brothers, Patrick H. Daniel (Betty) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Philip F. Daniel (Rose) of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister-in-law's, Ada Bell "Lou" Daniel and Patricia Jenkins Daniel of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Joyce Ann Daniel of Galveston, Texas; two aunts, Marceline Thierry Lewis and Shirley Thierry Guillory (Pete) of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Harold James Daniel will be remembered for his service, faith, generosity, love of family, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
