On June 26, 2013 Hebert James Coleman broke the bonds of this world andtransitioned to his heavenly home.He was born to Mattie and Cooper Coleman in Rayville, LA. Aftergraduating from Rayville Rosenwald School in 1954 he moved to LakeCharles, La. where he lived most of his life.
Herbert answered the call of duty to serve his country and enlistedwith the United States Army. His dedication to his country was sostrong that after completion of his tour of duty he then enlisted withthe Marine Corps. Post retirement from the military, he attendedSowela Technical Institute and completed his studies in welding. Helater was employed by Cocoa Cola Bottling Company and retired after 15years of service.
Dedication is a term that summarizes the life of Hebert James Coleman.Raised in a christian home he dedicated his life in the service of God''sarmy at an early age. He was a faithful member of the Mount CalvaryBaptist Church for 49 years. He was an active member of Sunday school,bible study, the brotherhood, male chorus and was very proud to serveas a deacon. He loved the fellowship shared by the men of Calvary asthey would prepare for the annual men''s day service. He was a man ofGod and loved his Lord and Savior. Hebert was also a mason withCornerstone Lodge 229.
His most cherished times were spent with his family and friends. Hetouched many lives with his smile and generosity. He was a devoted anddedicated son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to all who knew him.He shared a special bond with his elderly mother whom he tenderly caredfor. He loved to cook sumptuous meals for his family members. He trulyloved his niece and nephew and often referred to them as the "littlerascals''. He was overjoyed when he was asked to be the God father ofhis niece. During his niece and nephew formative years he wouldmake a weekly visit to their school, he showed his love in so many ways.James was always grateful for people in his life, he knew he was blessedwith a special sister in law, Sadie Coleman. Always challenging himselfto learn more, he taught himself to play the electric guitar akaLucille. He was also self taught in Spanish, and of course he was anavid student of God''s word.
Hebert will forever be loved and remembered by his mother, Mattie Moselyof Lake Charles; brother, Joseph (Sadie) Coleman of Sulphur, LA;treasured nieces Cynthia (Mark)Lee of Tampa FL; Sharon Coleman-Semienand her children CJ and Cloee Semien "lil angel" of Lake Charles;Terricida Lozada and her son Jacob Coleman of San Antonio, TX; alongwith countless friends, family, and cousins.
Hebert is preceded in death by his father, Cooper Coleman, sister,Dorothy Coleman, and brother, Cooper Van Coleman.
