Helen Valerie Richard was born on August 1, 1927 in Welsh, Louisiana to the late Alex Valerie and Annie Allison Valerie.  She was called home to gain her eternal reward from our Heavenly Father on Monday, May 28, 2018.

She was a devoted member of St. Henry Catholic Church where she served in the Ladies Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and as a Eucharistic Minister.  She was a strong woman of Christ who was always willing to help others in any way she could.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex Valerie and Annie Allison Valerie; her husband, John Newton Richard; one brother, Alexander Valerie; three sisters, Ella Jean Roy, Ethel Chavis, and Hilda Slater.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Linda Carrier of Lake Charles and Barbara Rougeau of Houston, Texas; three sons, Elton James (Mary) Rougeau of Lake Charles; David (Helen) Valerie of Atlanta, Georgia; and Harry (Carlecia) Malone of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Willie Valerie of Lake Charles and William (Barbara) Valerie of Katy, Texas.  Also left to cherish her memories are thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
