Celebrating the Eternal Life of

Helen Marie Semien Jones

Helen Marie Semien entered her life's journey into the world on July 29, 1942 in Opelousas, La. She was the sixth of eight children and the youngest girl born to the union of the late Mary LeBlanc Semien and Robert Semien.

She was baptized into the Catholic faith as an infant. Helen received her Sacraments of the Catholic Faith through Holy Ghost Catholic Church located in Opelousas, La.  Helen, at the age of 19, moved to Houston, Texas and attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Upon moving to Lake Charles, La. she joined Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic where she continued her spiritual life until her passing.

Helen was a graduate of J.S. Clark High School in Opelousas, La. where she served as a member of the Homecoming Court.

She is best known for being a beloved cashier at the family owned  Mayo's Grocery on Pear Street in Lake Charles, LA. where she worked along side her sister Irene Mayo for many years.  She loved the community and loved being a part of the fabric of Goosport in North Lake Charles.

My mother was a very loving, caring, compassionate, spiritual, kind lady who loved her family very much! She loved life and she loved people. She never met a stranger and could talk to anyone. She was always willing to help anyone in need that she cared about. Mom loved to cook, especially gumbo; up until two years ago or so, she was still cooking as often as she could.

Helen was a proud mama, maw maw, sister, auntie, cousin and friend to anyone who loved and knew her. She always loved being around family; she was the family matriarch.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Mary LeBlanc Semien and Robert Semien; four brothers, Lester Simien, Preston Simien, Melvin "Sony" Semien, Robert "Bobby"Simien; two sisters, Irene Semien Mayo and Willa Mae Dugas; her beloved daughter Jacquelyn "Jackie" Marie Moss Armelin, uncles, aunts, grandparents, four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, longtime companion Larry J. Bushnell, father of her children, Tommy L. Moss and former husband Lawrence Jones; four nephews and three nieces.

Helen leaves lasting, heart-felt, cherished memories with her loving and devoted son Tommy L. Moss II. Her loving and devoted granddaughter Antoinette "Nette" Marie Thomas, grandson Andrew "Drew" Joseph Armelin and fiancé, Andrea Young, two great grandsons, Derek Lamond Cooks Jr. and Devan Joseph Payne; her one and only living brother Leroy Joseph Semien (Sherry Fruge), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and one sister-in-law Olivia Lartique Semien.
