Henry Brown
Jr.
June 3, 1938 – October 11, 2017
Henry Brown Jr, age 79, of Lake Charles, Louisiana entered heavens' gates on October 11, 2017. He was born June 3, 1938 in Mansfield, Louisiana to the late Selina Short Brown and Henry Brown Sr. His family moved to Lake Charles during his early childhood.
He attended First Ward Elementary and W.O. Boston High School where he was a member of the Panther football team. After high school, he was employed by The Muller's Company as a delivery driver for 20 years. He left the Muller's company to work as an operator for Conoco Phillips refinery. He would later obtain the status of Chief Operator at the Reformer Unit. He was blessed with a fine mind and many talents. He could do anything he put his mind to. He was a hard worker and employee who held himself to a very high standard. In 1991 he was specifically selected to be a part of the Advance Control Project design team, which fundamentally changed refinery operations.
He retired from Conoco-Phillips in 1993 at the age of 55. He was the co-owner of H&S Rentals and Property Development; whose mission was to strengthen communities by providing good and affordable housing.
On May 16th of 1959 he married the love of his life, his wife, Shirley Winey Brown. From this union three children were born, Sharon Brown-Covington, Jeffrey Brown and Joel Brown.
He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He volunteered his time for numerous church activities that included being on the Mardi Gras Committee and maintenance projects around the church until his health began to fail him.
He was a gentle man that cared deeply about others. He was a great provider and enjoyed being a servant unto others. Numerous contributions were made to the American Heart Association, the Cleveland Clinic, and other organizations. He enjoyed fishing, outdoor cooking, and traveling. He was passionate about training his guard dogs, especially his Pitbull-Terrier "Boots". He had an infectious and jovial personality and he enjoyed making the people around him laugh. He was very supportive in the lives of his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He always strived to instill good values in his children and grandchildren. When his grandchildren came around they quickly became his favorite pastime. His grandchildren will always have those precious memories to cherish as they continue to remember "Big Papa" and he will continue to guide them from above.
Over the past year when his health failed, his beloved wife and family nurtured and cared for him throughout these months of his illness.
