Obituary

LAKE CHARLES Henry "Tubby" Schlesinger Sr., 81, was called home on July 10, 2013, in a local hospital.

Mr. Schlesinger was born on September 1, 1931, in Creole, La., to Annie Miller, and Douglas Schlesinger. He joined the United States Air Force and served 10 years before being honorably discharged in 1961. He raised his family and spent most of his life in Lake Charles, La., in the community of Prien Lake. While serving his country he met Katherine Duhon and the two were wed on June 15, 1953. They remained married until her death in 1977. To this union three children were born.

He retired from Lyondell Basell (formely Himont Inc.) after 37 years of dedicated service. He was a active member of the union during his employment.

Mr. Schlesinger later met Theresa Green Schlesinger and they remained married until her passing in 2004.

He was an active member of the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. He was instrumental in the starting of the church community. He spent many hours assisting in the building of the church and in the upkeep of the church grounds. He was a member of the Adult Club, the Knights of Peter Claver, the Usher Board, and was on the Pastoral Council. He was also very active in the money raising efforts to build the new church. He attended Mass faithfully until his illness.

Our dad had a love of family and pride in the children he raised. His children and grandchildren were his world. Besides a love of family, he had a love for the outdoors, gardening and working in his yard. You would often see him riding the tractor in the yard or working with the flowers and trees the he hand planted in his yard. Keeping his yard looking nice was a passion and joy for him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Katherine Duhon Schlesinger; his second wife, Theresa Green Schlesinger; and two brothers, Lawrence O. and Lee Emmit Schlesinger.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Kathy Schlesinger of Mansfield, Texas; two sons, Henry Douglas Schlesinger Jr. and wife Cheri of Rosehill, Texas, Byron Schlesinger and wife Maryann of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; four grandchildren, Julian Douglas Schlesinger of Mansfield, Texas, Danielle, Chelsea and Breanna Schlesinger, all of California; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, in St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Rev. Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park underthe direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Combre Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Monday at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
