Herbert Joseph Carrier was born on June 27, 1925 in Lawtell, Louisiana to the union of Walter and Alphonsine (Bellard) Carrier. The family relocated to Lake Charles after the birth of his sister, Mary affectionately known to the family as "Tut."
Herbert was called to glory at the age of 90 on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 2:53 a.m. in a local hospital.
Herbert served his country in the United States Navy during World War II; during his tour of duty he was stationed in the Philippines aboard the ship USS Rigel. After receiving an Honorable Discharge he returned home to complete his high school education from Sacred Heart Catholic School and furthered his studies at Grambling State University. He retired from Fort Polk after 25 years of service. Herbert was an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church serving as an usher, a member of the senior and male chorus and numerous organizations that are no longer in existence. He was a 50 year member of the Knights of Saint Peter Claver Council #31 and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Peter Claver, Father Hannigan Assembly # 6.
Herbert is preceded in death by his first wife Lizzie Gonzales Carrier, son Winston J. Carrier, sister Mary "Tut" Hardy, nephew, Brian A. Seymour, his parents and second wife Theresa G. Veazie Carrier.
His memory will be cherished by his son Charles "Lou Lou" Carrier and wife Brenda T. Carrier of St. Cloud, Florida and daughter, Deborah A. Carrier of Lake Charles; six grandchildren, Joseph Carrier, Shawn (Farrah) Elly, Brandon Carrier, Charles (Brit) Carrier, Charnai Carrier and Margan Carrier, eight great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and one special niece that he raised as his own Sandi (Roger) Allison-Harris, relatives and friends.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Service date: February 25, 2016
Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the funeral home. KPC ceremonies will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a rosary to be said at 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass will be at 11:00 in Sacred Heart Church, Father Richard Uche Adiukwu will officiate assisted by Deacon Edward Lavine. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
