Herbert Hoover Lewis Jr., 68, of Lake Charles, went into eternal rest September 19, 2021. Born December 1, 1952,he was the devoted son of Rena Dronet and Herbert Hoover Lewis Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mark W. Dronet.
Known as "June" and "Skeeter,' he had a special bond with sisters Linda and "Nita." Herbert is survived by his daughter, Shari Lynn Lewis Smith (Joseph) of Denver Colorado, and goddaughter Maria Semien (Corey) of Lake Charles.
He leaves five grandchildren: Kilisha Venable Beasley, Kilen Venable, Kylene Venable, Tyre Smith and Necoyia Smith all of Denver. Also, siblings Linda E. Lewis-Clemons (James) of Stafford, Texas, Brenda Jean Taylor and Juanita Trent of Houston, Texas. Plus, Mary Dronet-Lee (Carl) of Ruston, Louisiana., and Brenda Rogers (Tyrone) of Broussard, Louisiana.
Herbert was a 1972 graduate of W.O. Boston, and a proud band member. Upon graduation, Herbert became a certified air condition and refrigeration repairmen. While working maintenance at St. Patrick hospital and McNeese State, he owned and operated "June's Appliance Repair," until heath issues forced retirement.
He always helped his family, beginning at age 12 working at Sam's Barbershop, and St. Patrick's Hospital throughout high school. June always checked on the elderly, especially his maternal grandparents, Momma Alice and Poppa Isaac Dronet. He loved to play pranks on children.
June leaves in mourning aunts May Etta Tezeno (Atlanta) and Yvonne D. Frelot (San Francisco). Also nephews Rev. Mark Edwards of Houston, Joaquin "Ace" Trent (Richmond, Texas), Michael Higginbotham, (Lake Charles), Darryl Wayne Taylor (Houston) and James A Clemons, IV (New York City). Along with nieces Tina Marquina, Tiffany Rogers,Tyra Rogers (all of Houston), Anitra Clemons (Atlanta), Kendra Taylor (Houston) and Jasmine Clemons (Baltimore).
