Obituary

Pastor Howard John DeJean Sr. born June 24, 1940 to the late John and Alvie DeJean; he departed this life on Sunday April 1, 2012 at his home and at the prepared age of 71.

Pastor Howard DeJean Sr. was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, La. He was employed as a chef at Holiday Inn, IMC, and IMTC at Conoco for 27 years. Later in life he became ordained as an Elder on June 10, 2001 and later became the Pastor of Church of the New Beginning of Lake Charles, Inc.  He was a devoted husband and father, not just to his children but to so many others.  He was greatly loved and respected by his community and all whom had the pleasure of knowing him; he was an awesome cook and fed everyone whom graced his home.  He was a humble and willing servant of the Lord, and never turned away anyone who needed counsel.  He was a true example of the love that the Lord so desires for us to have one for another.

Pastor DeJean was preceded in death by his daughter Vanessa (DeJean) Thomas, and adoptive son Albert Anderson, his parents John and Alvie DeJean; four brothers, Allen, Freddie, Rodney, and Charles; his sister Leona Chretien.  He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Clara Marie DeJean, his sons Hayward John, Rodney (Angelina), Christopher (Felisha) and Howard (Christy).   He also leaves his sisters Evelda Guidry of Houston, Texas, Sophie Dejean and Julie Coleman all of Lake Charles, La.; as well as 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and a host of adoptive children, relatives and friends.

His funeral will be held at Combre Funeral Home, 1200 Mill St., Lake Charles, LA 70601. Visitation from 8 -11am, Services start 11am. He will be laid to rest at the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
