Obituary

Ida Mae Beloney

On the evening of Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in the comfort of her loving family at her side, Ida Mae Beloney went home to be with the Lord. She was 92 years old. Ida was born on November 26, 1931, in Abbeville, LA, to the parents of Evertte and Myrtle Baker, and was the fifth of five children.

In 1950, she married James Adam Beloney, and five children were born to that union: Cynthia, Terry, Michael, Gwynda, and Lance. James and Ida were married for 62 years.

Ida graduated from McNeese State University with a BA in Early Childhood Education. After graduating from college, she was employed by the Calcasieu Parish School Board, where she taught for 30 years. She retired from Oak Park Elementary School in 1995. She had a passion for teaching and a desire to help students learn. She was beloved by her students, and they never forgot how she prepared them for life.

Ida's faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of Starlight Baptist Church for over 60 years, she found great joy in teaching Sunday school. Her deep spirituality was evident in her commitment to reading the Bible and her fervent prayers. Under the leadership of Reverend Julian K. Woods, she continued to serve the church until her passing.

Ida's devotion to her family was unparalleled. She found immense joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, their smiles lighting up her world. As the Matriarch of the family, her love and presence will be deeply missed. Ida left a legacy of love and beautiful memories to cherish with her children, Gwynda (John) Citizen of Lake Charles, LA; Lance (Lisa) Beloney of Huntsville, TX; all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Evertte and Myrtle Baker; husband, James A. Beloney; daughter, Cynthia J. (Beloney) Housley; sons, Terry D. Beloney, Sr. and Michael J. Beloney, Sr.; three brothers, Leroy Baker, Lawrence Baker, and Warren Baker; and one sister, Emma J. Baker.
