Our mother was a generous, gracious, proud and loving person who was always there to help anyone in need. She was our mentor, confidant, and friend. Irene was affectionately known by her husband, family and friends as "Rene".
Irene Mayo was the third of eight children born on June 19, 1931 in Opelousas, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Semien. Irene was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Mayo in 1950. From this union three children Carolyn Boutte, Mary Dell Mayo, and James Mayo were born. As the owner of Mayo's Grocery for 52 years, her commitment to the community and the desire to carry on the business after her husband's death was evident to family, friends, and customers.
Her precious memories will be cherished by a family who loved her dearly. She leaves behind her one daughter Mary Dell Mayo, one son James Mayo and two grandchildren Bobby Boutte and Briar Mayo. She also leaves behind her sisters Willie Mae Dugas of Port Arthur, Texas, Helen Jones of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and a brother Leroy Semien of Houston, Texas.
In addition, she leaves four sister-in-laws Gertrude Semien, Olivia Semien, Laura Mayo, Emmaline Winford; two brother-in-laws Gilbert May and Donald Mayo; and one Godson Tommy Moss, II. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Mayo, her daughter Carolyn Boutte, her brothers Lester, Preston, Sunny and Bobby Semien.
Rene's loving memory will live through the Mayo and Semien families.
