Irvin Kenwood Abraham, 94, died Sunday May 29, 2016, in his home. He was a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana. He served in the military for 3.5 years. Irvin was employed by the Calcasieu Parish School Board where he worked for over 40 years. During his time with the school board he served as principal of St John Elementary and John F Kennedy Elementary. He was a member of the Gamma Iota Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Irvin served as president for the AARP of the Gosport Unit and was a board member at SWLA Health Care Services for several years. He was an active member of the Retired Teaches Association, having served as treasurer for several years. Irvin was also a member of the Golden Chain Lodge 103 for over 50 years.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Deal Abraham; his mother, Ella Abraham; father Charles Abraham; his daughter, Constance Abraham Handy, sisters, Elaine Plowden and Alice Fontenot; brothers, Charles and Raymond Abraham,. He leaves to cherish his memory his granddaughter, Whitney Handy; nieces Katherine Augustus, Betty Jo Mayo, Ella Denise Plowden of Dallas, Jacqueline Kimble; great niece Phala Daniels of Chicago; nephews Steve and Raynard Abraham.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Service date: June 7, 2016

His funeral will take place at 11am, Tuesday, June 7 at Warren United Methodist Church. Pastor Davis Clark will officiate. Burial will follow at Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation is from 9am-11am at the church.
